WHAT:
An interdisciplinary installation bringing visual artists, poets, performers and musicians together for a week of curated work inspired by the Other Canon. The Other Canon- a compilation developed initially by Susan Jonas with additions by Catherine Loretta, Kate Bergstrom and more is a collection of scripts by Women* from the year 700 AD to 1970. Artists from multiple disciplines at Brown and RISD (both graduate and undergraduate schools) will contribute a piece of new work inspired by and birthed from a given piece of text from the Other Canon. These pieces can be sculptural, visual, musical, durational/performance based or multi-disciplinary.
